Xiao Yu fell on the scissors, which became lodged 7cm deep in his face, when he tripped and fell on them as he was helping his parents put up spring festival scrolls onto the door of their home in Qinglong town, in Qinghuangdao in eastern China.
The blades had became lodged in his upper jaw at a dangerous angle, X-rays revealed.
But doctors managed to remove the scissors during a three-hour operation, and just eight days after his ordeal, Yu was smiling again, with just a small scar to show for his traumatic injury - and no facial nerve damage.
